Fun at FedEx

by Dave

I spent today learning some defensive driving skills as well as familiarizing myself with the standard delivery truck at FedEx’s airport facility. One of the things they taught us (which, by the way, we’re not supposed to actually do if we can help it) is how to parallel park. It’s not as difficult as it first seemed. But, really, when am I ever going to find a spot large enough for the truck?

On my way to Wendy’s for lunch (in my personal car, that is) I encountered a roundabout. Having limited experience with them, I made sure to take a good look at the intersection to make sure I didn’t do something stupid. It was then that I realized another car was going the wrong direction in the roundabout. Genius. Fortunately there was only one other car going the proper direction. I have a feeling that, as a courier, I’m going to be seeing a lot of stupid driving. I’ll be sure to share the really special stories here with you.

Decisions, decisions…

I’ve been struggling lately with which music player buy. I eliminated the iPod right away as I’m not an iTunes fan and, amazingly, none of the current iPods match the specs that I’m looking for. My requirements are:

    • must be flash-based
    • minimum 16gb of storage (has to hold all my tunes)
    • can’t be ridiculously expensive (iPod Touch is cool, but wicked expensive)

The two I’ve been trying to decide between are the new Creative Zen and Sansa View (both 16gb). Both have expandable storage and great battery life (the View is rated at 36 hours for music playback). The extra features (radio, eq, video) are also pretty comparable. The big difference right now is price. The Zen is $250 and the View is $176. In all likelihood, that will be enough to steer me toward the View. However, I have a tendency to be indecisive about things like this and will likely change my mind about ten times between now and when I actually have the money to purchase a player. We’ll see what happens.

      Thanksgiving at 100dB's

      by Dave

We’re resting our ears today after getting back last night from the big Thanksgiving gathering in DL. My family is so loud (and I love it). It’s one of the few places Megan doesn’t need to wear her hearing aids. If you have any questions about whether or not that’s an exaggeration, ask Aaron H.

Much food was eaten and many card games played. One of our favorites is Wist. Nat and I love taunting our parents as we win game after game thanks to our superior strategy and trash-talking. Cribbage is a close second. Games, in general, are one of the big contributers to the volume at home. We especially love games that involve a lot of yelling, like Taboo. Phase 10 is another favorite thanks to the angry yelling caused by skip cards and people going out when you’re only one card from getting your phase. So aggravating. It’s more of a love/hate relationship, really, with Phase 10.

Despite the fun at my parents’ place, it’s good to be home. I enjoy few things more than watching football from the comfort of my couch. And thanks to fantasy football and my yelling at the tv, it’s almost as noisy here.

      Welcome, welcome!!

Thank you so much for coming and checking out our blog. Our/my goal is update this on a fairly regular basis to keep all of our friends and family updated on our wonderful lives. :) I have already posted ‘our story’, this can be found at the top of the page – enjoy the story. Eventually we will have more pictures to post and more exciting news/information for you to read.

The latest with us…Dave has started his new job at FedEx and is busy with the training portion of it right now. So far he really likes it and is anxious to learn more about the company and start driving a truck. I am still busy teaching and driving many miles a day. I do love my job, even though I may complain about all the driving.

We will be heading up to Detroit Lakes, MN to spend Thanksgiving with Dave’s side of the family. It should be a wonderfully relaxing time with lots and lots and lots and lots of fun. I’m looking forward to it though. Mostly I’m looking forward to a vacation from school.

      Have a very wonderful Thanksgiving!!!!
