A Little Vacation

by Megan

We don’t take long vacations or even really call them “vacations”. We call them “get aways”. Our last “vacation” was to Mexico back in February 2011. That was almost more adventure than vacation. ;-)

Anyway, we took a little vacation in WI for a few days. The boys and I headed to Poppa’s house on Saturday. Along the way we stopped to see a friend of mine, Monica and her kids. It was a brief visit, but a wonderful one nonetheless.

On Sunday, we had the Paulson Family Reunion. Every year, we have the reunion, on the first Sunday in August. Once, we deviated from that particular day. It was when Dave and I go married. They pushed it back a week so family could get a 2 for 1 deal – wedding and reunion. :-) Of course I didn’t get any pictures from the reunion but we had a wonderful time. It was fun to see family that I haven’t seen for years and visit with those that I see on a fairly regular basis. I missed the ones who couldn’t be there or are no longer here on earth.

The boys and I stayed at Poppa’s house. We went to the Clear Lake Park for a few hours on Monday. It was chilly and kinda wet, but we enjoyed being the only ones at the quiet park.

We stopped to see Gramma Caron on our way home. The boys love stopping to see her. Eli talks about her and Noah just mimics what he says. Noah never got to meet her, I was pregnant with him when she died. Eli gave Gramma hugs and blew her kisses. :-) Sweet boy!

Monday evening, Dave came to Clear Lake and after supper we took off and left the boys with Poppa. Yes, that’s right! We got to get away for a few days to celebrate our anniversary…alone. That means with no children, for those of you who were wondering. ;-) We borrow some friend’s (Brad and Ronda Paulson) cabin in Spooner, WI for a few days. We watched several movies, played some cribbage, went for a pontoon boat ride around the small lake and just enjoyed being together. We got to have conversations, uninterrupted. Gasp! It was kinda nice and quiet. :-)

The scenery around the lake was beautiful. We chatted about our dream of owning a lake lot someday.

It was a wonderful little getaway with my love, David John.

August 7th marks 9 years of marriage. I hope we have many more years together. Thank you Jesus for a wonderful man!

Bikes!!

by Megan

The boys now have bikes! Yay!!! Some friends from church were getting rid if some small bikes. The boys are so excited!

20130708-152044.jpg

We went for a few bike rides yesterday. Eli has gotten the hang of it but Noah still needs help. Eli was so excited to show me how he can ride his bike.

We took our neighbor’s lawn mower back to him yesterday. I helped Noah along the way. :-)

The park is only 2 blocks away, I have a feeling that lots of bike rides to the park will be happening for the remainder of the summer.

Now, we need bike helmets! And Mommy and Daddy need to get some bikes.

4th of July Celebrations!!

by Megan

We had a great day celebrating 4th of July! Dave had to work so we didn’t see him until later. The boys and I went to Minneapolis to spend part of the day with my great Aunt Mary and Uncle Clarence. We had a picnic lunch at their house and then went to the Richfield parade. Super fun day!!

Later when Dave got home we ate a good 4th of July dinner – chicken, corn on the cob and watermelon. Yum!! We went to the Cottage Grove firework celebration. The boys had fun jumping in the bounce house, playing at the park and watching the fireworks. Noah was concerned about the fireworks getting his crackers. Eli loved playing frisbee with his glow stick bracelets. We had fun!

Grand finale for the fireworks show. Amazing!!

Clear Lake Heritage Days

by Megan

Last weekend was the annual Clear Lake Heritage Days festival. Since Dave had to work, I decided to take the boys and head “home” for the weekend. We spent the weekend having a blast! Lots of memories were made.

On the way to CL, I had to “force” the boys to nap (it involved me telling them to keep their eyes closed until we got to Poppa’s house). Eli fell asleep for about 30 mins. Noah did not. This is what he looks like when he’s being “forced” asleep.

We headed to town on Friday night and attempted some rides. First Eli road on a little pony, he enjoyed it but reported that horses stink.

Noah participated in the sawdust coin search. He was done after 2 minutes.

I wasn’t sure how the ride thing was going to go, the boys have never been in rides. Noah wasn’t a fan of the train ride, he cried and screamed.

We attempted another ride. It was a car ride that went really fast in circles. They loved it. They also loved the rocket ship ride – round and round and up and down. But they didn’t like the train ride…at first!

On Saturday we went to the parade a fun sat with Jodi and Connor. Jodi taught me the finer points of being a mom and going to parades. Connor was fantastic and shared the “loot” with the boys. We also saw Auntie Brianna in the parade! The boys thought that was fantastic!!

After no naps on Friday, I decided I wasn’t going to do that two days in a row. Eli went to the demo derby with Poppa while Noah and I went home and slept for a bit. It was nice! Eli loved the demo derby and has been playing demo derby with his cars here at home. :-)

We did more rides on Saturday and the boys loved it.

The boys went on some four wheeler rides before heading to bed. Eli went with Uncle Craig and Noah went with me.

We ended a fabulous weekend with the car show on Sunday. Poppa had his Road Runner entered so we went to see it. The boys had fun crawling all over it. They love Poppa’s race car!

Sponge Balls!!

by Megan

A while back I found a link on Pinterest to make something fun…sponge balls. I thought the boys would love it. Today I bought some sponges and made them into balls. We had a blast! We had a race to see who could fill up their buckets of water first. Fun times!

This is what the finish product looked like. It took me about 2 minutes to make. Just long enough to drive the boys nuts! :-)

Here is a video of the boys playing with the sponge balls.

Here is the link that I found the sponge balls at – http://innerchildfun.com/2011/07/sponge-bomb-bucket-toss.html

Now go make some sponge balls and create summer memories!!
