The New Loop Pedal – Part 2

by Dave

The last post left off after having completed the drilling of the new enclosure. Next I installed all the parts into the enclosure. Thankfully my poor drilling didn’t screw things up and they all still fit.

After that came the wiring. I was able to install all the wires by wrapping the wire ends to the posts so they stayed in place. I then soldered all the joints at once. It worked pretty well. I ended up using a bit of electrical tape to make sure the LEDs don’t push through. I wasn’t too excited by the quality of the LED bezels and probably won’t buy them again.

Finally, after a quick test of the pedal, I give you the completed two loop pedal with a separate tuner output.

The New Loop Pedal – Part 1

by Dave

I have a great loop pedal, but wanted an additional loop to isolate things a bit more. Here’s the new configuration: the signal comes into the loop pedal, goes out to loop one (the Small Stone and Little Big Muff), back to the loop pedal and then out to loop two (Ampeg Sub-Blaster and MXR EQ), then back to the loop pedal and out to my preamp.

I wanted the additional loop because of the Small Stone. It’s a big-time tone-sucker when in bypass mode. I like it being paired with the Little Big Muff as it tames the distortion a bit, but the octave pedal likes a clean signal with a lot of treble so it can easily duplicate the signal an octave lower. Now, to the construction.

First I made a cardboard mockup to get the measurements down.

Everything fit nicely, so I drilled the new enclosure. It quickly became obvious that I need a drill press (the holes are not centered or lined up as well as I had hoped.

Part two will show the rest.

Teaser

Here’s a teaser for you late-night blog cruisers: the new loop pedal is complete and will make its debut tomorrow right here. I couldn’t get my pedalboard rewired in time for church in the morning, but it will be finished tomorrow afternoon.

Dell BT Mouse

My new bluetooth mouse is here! I love being wireless. It’s a Dell mouse, but the flat black finish matches my MacBook perfectly. Now the only question is how long the batteries will last.

Washed Out

by Dave

Well, the big camping trip (read 20-minute drive) to Afton State Park was good while it lasted. I got there late since I had to work Friday, but made the most of my evening by trying to make the firewood fit into the fire ring. Becky has several good pics posted on Facebook.

The next day started off nicely with a good hike on the trails, followed by lunch and some down time. Unfortunately, the rain started shortly thereafter. We called it after a couple hours of indecision, thinking if we were going to pack up and walk out in the rain, it may as well be sooner rather than later. Plus, the Hintgens’ tent was leaking badly.

The evening finished nicely, though. After getting home and showering, we all went to Aaron and Leah’s, ordered pizza, killed some zombies and watched a movie. Not bad.
