Squirmy Boy

Eli generally sits pretty still when we hold him, but almost as soon as you put him down he starts squirming. In the video below he starts off slow, but picks up the pace toward the end.

Wow, it has been a long time since either one of us has posted an update on our busy life. We survived the holiday season. We had a wonderful Christmas season gallivanting the countryside visiting family. It was such a wonderful blessing to have Eli home with us for Christmas, we absolutely loved celebrating his first Christmas with him. Of course we enjoyed showing him off to everyone. :)
We spent New Years with some very good friends of ours (Carlsons, Hintgens, Hintzs and Netolickys). Carlsons opened up their home for us to celebrate the end of the year. We ate homemade pizza, played games, shared Toilet Trivia and enjoyed each other’s company. We came up with our slogan for the year, ‘Accidents Happen’. The challenge is to see what types of ‘accidents’ will happen this year.
I started back to work last week. Most of my students were glad to see me back to work this week, several could care less if I was back or not. The hardest part about going back to work was not having my daily nap time. :) Otherwise it was such a smooth transition for me. Dave spent the week watching our niece, Gator, in the mornings, she slept most of the time. Eli then spent the afternoon at Nate and Sarah’s place with Aunt Sarah and Gator. As Dave mentioned, we did find an in home daycare for Eli and he will be starting there tomorrow.
Eli is starting to eat more and sleep just a little bit longer. We are looking forward to the day when he sleeps more than 3-4 hours at a time. At the last doctor visit Eli weighed in at just over 10 pounds, he’s a growing boy. When he’s awake he loves to lay on his mat and kick and squirm. In the last week or so, he has started ‘talking’ more. He will make some cooing sounds, otherwise most of his ‘talking’ comes in the form of screams.
We hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season. Thank you for the cards, well wishes and most importantly – prayers!! We are so thankful for all our steadfast prayer warriors. We love all of you!!
There are new pictures in the photo album. Enjoy!!!
My sister-in-law, Sarah, and I took turns watching the babies last week. Sarah worked mornings for the city of Maplewood and I worked, of course, at FedEx in the afternoons. I had it pretty easy as Alexis spent most of the mornings sleeping. The only tricky thing was when she woke up hungry and didn’t want to eat from her bottle. On Friday she was especially tired and slept the entire morning until Sarah showed up. Right before she arrived, though, Alexis must have been dreaming of eating because her little mouth was just going. In between sucks, she had her tongue sticking out. Here’s a pic followed by a short video.

One of our greatest concerns with Eli was what we were going to do for childcare when Megan goes back to work. The doctors told us that a traditional daycare was not an option as it is too high a risk for infection for him. The only other options were for me to quit my job and stay home with him or find somebody that could take care of him in their home.
With only a few days to spare, we found someone to keep an eye on him for a few hours each day. A friend at church put us in contact with one of her friends that lives in St. Paul fairly close to us. We met with her this morning and she’s a very nice woman.
It’s a great blessing to have found someone nearby as most of the people we know live in south Minneapolis. Megan is especially excited as this was one of the big items stressing her. Praise God for another need met.
You may have noticed a lull in posting lately. It is due, for the most part, thanks to all the people trying to get their gifts to people at the last minute. Work has been nutty; I’ve been working 10- and 12-hour days for the last week. That tends to get in the way of other activities. Today is the last day of insanity for me as I’ll be going back to a more normal schedule.
As a testament to how busy FedEx Express has been, consider this: Monday of last week was the most single-day volume ever for the company (11.4 million packages), beating the previous record of about 9.8 million. This week, especially Tuesday, was projected to be even more volume. We’ll see how it shakes out when the numbers come in.
