Chronicling the adventures of the B's

The latest…

by Dave

Well, it’s been a long time since we’ve updated you with any news. Where to begin…

Eli… is successfully sleeping through the night. He has been doing this, more or less, since we moved into our house. We are so thankful that he is now sleeping through the night, that means we are sleeping through the night as well. Eli is crawling all over the place now and pulling himself up on just about everything he can. He is not walking yet but does walk along furniture and other things. His vocabulary is ever expanding, he can now say – mama, dada, baby, book, oh, no and make lots of babbling noises. Because we were unable to have him circumcised when he was born, we had the procedure done last month and he came through with flying colors. Eli is also eating like a horse, he has a lot of new foods that he likes. He likes to eat – apple slices, bananas, peaches, pears, mangoes, grapes, cereal bars, cheerios, puffs, sweet potatoes, yams, carrots (mixed in with fruit), spaghetti-o’s, bean and bacon soup, applesauce, bread chunks and so much more.

Our house… is slowly coming along. We’ve been gone for a few weekends and haven’t gotten too much done. Dave did a beautiful job on our new banister. It looks fantastic! We still need to stain it, but it is up and I feel better having it up (we have the baby gate up now). Yesterday was a good work day for us. We ripped out some sheet rock from the entry way, Dave finished ripping out the sheet rock in the 3rd bedroom, finished painting the kitchen (still needs a 2nd coat), did some more organizing and overall just felt very productive. Our next project is the entryway. We need and want to finish the entry way so we have a place to hang our coats and keys. They take up a lot of space around the house.

Other news…I got new hearing aids (pictures in the ‘randoms’ photo album). I absolutely LOVE them! I wear my hearing aids a lot more now than I ever did before. With my old hearing aids it took me 3-4 weeks to go through a hearing aid battery, now it takes me 8-10 days to go through a battery. I also have a car from work now to drive. I drive a 2010 Ford Focus, its a sweet car and gets good gas mileage. Dave has gotten some new tools and is having tons of fun doing various building projects and working on his car.

I have updated several of the photo albums, please take a look.

Should This Person Be Allowed to Breed?

by Dave

Megan shared a story with me today about her trip to the store. While restocking my pop supply (very important), she encountered a woman (roughly 30 years old) doing the same. Megan was loading up on the 24-pack cubes which were on sale for $6. The other woman grabbed two 12-packs from the shelf, priced at $4 each. Being the kind person she is, Megan informed the woman that a cube is cheaper. The woman responded “Thanks, but we can’t drink that much pop in a week.” Let that one breathe a bit and then read it again.

This sad story brings to mind a thought I’ve often had regarding the many morons I’ve encountered in this world; should this person be allowed to breed? My very [un]scientific observations seem to show that stupid people, such as this woman, are very good at reproducing, and at a faster rate than so-called ‘normal’ people. Here’s hoping we’re not soon overrun by people who can’t do basic math.

Fire Phil Cuzzi

by Dave

I’ll get this out of the way at the top to avoid any backlash: the Twins did their best to lose the game on Friday night. They blew a two-run lead and an early base-running mistake cost them a run. However, that is not an excuse for the horrible call Phil Cuzzi made on what should have been a double for Joe Mauer in the 11th inning.

I can live with being mad at Joe Nathan for blowing the save and Carlos Gomez for making a stupid play, but the call Cuzzi made was inexcusable. He was exactly where he needed to be: mere feet from where the ball landed. Yet, he failed to see the ball hit the fielder’s glove and then land in fair territory. He had one job to do and he failed miserably on what should have been an easy call. I say fire Phil Cuzzi and bring on instant replay. This sort of “human element” that replay detractors seem to romanticize is moronic.

Eve of Destruction

by Dave

Once again, I must say thank you to Elko Speedway for bringing us one of the greatest events imaginable: the Eve of Destruction. Many races were run, from cars to motorcycles. Monster trucks smashed old cars, school buses raced, dirt bike riders did trick jumps, but the highlight of the evening was the spectator race.

The two fastest cars were a 90’s Camaro and a 90’s Corvette. The Camaro won the first matchup. Later the same group of cars came out for a second chance. This time, the Corvette forced the Camaro up the track by taking the turn very wide. Instead of braking and saving his car, the Camaro tried to push on and ended up putting it into the wall, causing some serious damage. He did not look happy after stopping. The crowd, however, loved it.

Notable News…

by Dave

Eli had his first successful sleeping through the night experience on Monday night. He went to bed at 10pm and Dave said he didn’t wake up until 9am. He didn’t wake up during the night and fussed, he slept right on through. Yay!!!!
