Chronicling the adventures of the B's

Who's That?

by Dave

Eli was sitting on Megan’s lap this evening while we were looking at pictures on my laptop. I looked at the picture of Eli on my desktop, pointed at it, and asked Eli “who is that?” He smiled, looked at the picture, and then looked behind the screen. I think he was looking for the rest of the baby. He did it a couple more times before the game got old.

YNAB 3

by Dave

I’m anxiously awaiting the release of a new finance management program called YNAB 3. YNAB (which stands for You Need A Budget) will be a substantial upgrade over my current software (Money 2002). I’ve been waiting for a good Mac-compatible program for quite awhile. I’m currently running Money on an XP virtual machine on my Mac and it’s ok, but I’d really like to get away from that so I can save a bit of time. I’ve seen some of the sneak peaks and it looks like it will be a good one. Here’s hoping.

Check it out for yourself here.

The fork ran away with the spoon…

by Dave

Dave had lots of fun on his hunting trip but did miss Eli and me. He didn’t shoot anything for himself, but Charlie was able to fill a tag for him. Upon arriving home (at 1am on Monday morning) he spent the next few days cutting and freezing meat. We are so lucky to have a full deep freezer – it’s full of meat, meals and ice cream! Thank you Jesus!!

I did see one mouse while Dave was gone. It was at 9:30pm on Friday night, I was heading downstairs to get some pjs for Eli and noticed one in the trap. I immediately went over to the neighbor’s house and ask if Terry would come and take care of the mouse for me. He was so wonderful, he not only took care of the mouse but also checked the other traps. Thank goodness for great neighbors.

We started painting the living room today and by ‘we’, I totally mean Dave. I did nothing to help other than keep Eli entertained. Eli and I were ‘caged’ into his room busy playing with all his toys. He did great and handled being penned in very well.

This post has nothing to do with a spoon or fork, but it did catch your attention – didn’t it!?!

One year ago…

by Dave

…we welcomed Eli Mathias Burlingame into the world and into our lives. He weighed in at 8lbs.  10 oz. and was nearly 22 inches long. He changed our lives in so many different ways.

As you can see from the picture he had a major cone head. The first six months of his life (and our new life) were challenging but so rewarding. God gave us a beautiful baby boy who needed extra special parents to care for his extra special needs. We spent time at the hospital watching others care for our son and teaching us to care for him. We spent countless hours cuddling and loving him. We learned lots of new lingo – cardio, heart cath, echo, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, IV, NJ/NG tube, vent, nitrogen tank, etc.  We shed tears, smiled happy/sad smiles, shared laughter, looked on in wonder and amazement – through it all we saw God’s hand.

Today we have a one year old little boy who is happy, carefree and loving life. He grew up way to fast. He’s crawling all over the place, talking/babbling a lot, trying lots of yummy new foods, going on trips and so much more. Eli is such a joy in our lives. We cannot imagine life without him. God gave us a challenge and a miracle all in one kiddo. It’s so hard to believe it has been one year already. Man, time sure does fly.

We love Eli’s smile, laughter, babbling/talking, movements, screeches, rubberband wrist, chubby legs, squishy cheeks, big brown eyes, drooly face and so much more. We love our little boy! Happy birthday Eli!!!!

Well…

We’ve been mouse free for two days. We are seriously hoping and praying that it was just a momma and her babies. Dave is sure that we’ve gotten all the babies, no one has taken his bait or set off the traps. Thank you Jesus!!! I don’t like mice!
