Face-shaking Fun

by Dave

Eli had a good day of eating yesterday. However, he didn’t eat quite as much as the docs would have liked, so they put the feeding tube back in last night. He also finished taking another drug yesterday. His amounts on some of the others were much lower today as well.

He’s been sleeping really well and acting very content, at least when his diaper is clean. We can tell he needs to be changed when he’s crying and his pacifier won’t make him stop. It’s kind of funny, because you can see him crinkling his face a bit, and then he’ll start crying. One quick look usually confirms that he’s dirtied his diaper.

Here’s a look at Eli feeding. The pic is from yesterday and video is from today.

Eli has a Face!

by Dave

Eli came off the ventilator and feeding tube today. He actually has a face under all that stuff. We haven’t seen him without something in his face since he was born. He’s a pretty good-looking kid. I’ll post some more video tonight after work (and visiting the boy). For the time being, here’s Eli. The first is of Eli right before they took out the tubes. The second is his face.

Baby's First Mohawk

by Dave

Eli was wide awake when we arrived at the hospital today; we were talking to him and holding his little hands. Then, we decided it might be fun to style his hair. Here he is, sporting the new do. We also added some more stills to his gallery today.

Weening

by Dave

Eli had a good last 24 hours. Yesterday they took the arterial line out of his belly button. Today they removed his chest drainage tubes and took him off the pacemaker. They’re also slowly weening him off of his pain meds and the ventilator. He’s no longer more machine than man. We were also told it’s likely that, in a few days, he’ll be moved upstairs to his own room.

I called the hospital a little while ago to see how he was doing; Eli’s doing well and isn’t requiring much attention (thus, his nurse was watching the news). The patient/nurse ratio there is 1:1, so with Eli doing well, she gets a bit of easy time.
